Garden updates: successes and issues

Mildew on the zucchinis leaves... most of the fruits were yellow and eaten by another animals :


 Lots of gombo/okra turned out great - but towards the end the leaves were eaten, yellow and sick


Kohlrabi doing wonderful, as all the other cabbage as well

Okra/Gombo - grew great, only at the end got a bit weak

 Chilli peppers growing well - in the meantime they have turned red : )



 The pepper - also liking the soil : ) and in the meantime the first yellow pepper in Mbandaka


 

 Red Beans - Blauhilde - grain from germany, that is seemingly becoming tropicalized already
Local corn: 2m; German corn: maybe 1m ...


not everything grew this well. Our cucumber got attacked by aphids, mildew and white furry, minim animals, whos name I do not know. I had to completely remove them : /  The Milpa method of planting corn with beans and pumpkin also didn't go to well. We planted all of them together, yet the corn needs longer to actually provide structure for the beans (About 3 weeks) and the pumpkin had too little sun and too much moisture underneath the beans and corn... so mildew yet again. In the meantime it is growing outside the bed, but sill ...

The melon has grown everywhere, even though we are still waiting for the fruits. Beans and cabbage love it here. So did all the tomato plants, even though the huge plants have not grown a lot of flowers yet... all in all a very rewarding place to garden, as things grow so quickly.

And considering how much garbage I pulled out of the ground, the soil has provided enormous amount of support for all the veggies we planted.

Misplaced Priorities of the EU migration policy and its relation to aid

"Accra Accra" - how the Trotros keep the city moving

Sometimes I wish I would have chosen Trotros as the center of my research.  These mini-buses/transporters that are furnished with four row of seat in the back,  and on average hold 15 + people, including a driver and a "mate" who collects the fees and tells the driver when to stop.  In the past two months I have spent most of my time either waiting for a Tro to arrive, inside one of them (waiting for the bus to fill us in one of the many stations so we can start the journey) or sitting in traffic of Accra (which has be the great majority).  Seemingly uncoordinated and superficial chaotically organized the thousands of mini-buses make Accra move.  Here a pic on one parked on the side of the road in Jamestown... probably waiting to fill up ...or taking a break More soon...
